Internships are one of the best ways to transition from the classroom blocks to a formal workplace, and it gives rise to learning in a work setting. Inexperienced high school graduates and undergraduates will easily get frustrated when confronted with real life, workplace challenges which may seem wrong or unjust to their personality.
As interns in any organization, appealing to the manager or superiors’ emotional intelligence is pivotal to success. It is important to adopt effective ways of communicating like asking questions about the company’s policy even if it is irrational, than questioning the company’s ethics, values or decisions.
When you are involved in an emotional situation at work, it is to your advantage to get a perspective from someone who is older and wiser. Finding a mentor to guide you, help you see the big picture, and whom you can bounce questions off of can help save a lot of grief in the long run.
In the same vein, when you are criticized for doing something bad or unprofessional, accept it with a leap of faith and let it improve you . Aggressive communication from interns who supposedly do not have the knowledge, values and work place experience would only results to aggressive behaviour from the manager.
